Young Harrier named Ayshire’s junior female athlete of the year 2013

Evie Bartl was presented with an award recognising her great athletics achievement in 2013, where Evie won a total of 9 national medals. Thirteen years old Evie beat off stiff competition from older athletes for this prestigious accolade and truly deserves this award as she demonstrated that she is a all round athlete by winning gold medals in a wide variety of athletics events. Evie started the year by winning the indoor Pentathlon gold and the silver medal in the shot put. In May she won 2 gold medals at the West District (shot and javelin) and 1 silver for hurdles. In June Evie won a bronze at the Scottish Schools combined events and a week later Evie won gold in shot put and javelin, and also made it through to the final in the hurdles. Evie was also named female athletes S1 at the Ayrshire Schools for setting a new record for the 75m hurdles. In July Evie won a silver medal at the Scottish Outdoor Pentathlon Championships. However, her best championship was in August 2013 where she competed in 3 events, shot put, javelin and pole vault. Evie not only won three gold medals but set also 3 personal best in each event. In both throwing events Evie won the competitions with her first throws: javelin 30.77 (6 meter further than the second placed athlete). In the shot put with 9.75 but was later even able to improve with a throw of 10.14m (over ½ meter further than the second placed athlete). Evie also competed in the pole vault, an event which she had only been training for 4 months and won gold with a new PB of 2.00m.

Coach and dad Harald Bartl, who still competes in track & field, was awarded 1st Veteran man for the second consecutive year. Last not least, Lauren Greig was awarded 1st female in the U13 age group.
