Women’s 10K and BMC 3,000 at Scotstoun.

LAURA TOP 20’S IN WOMENS 10K

The City of Glasgow hosted the 2017 Simply Health Women’s 10K on Sunday and in a field of thousands there were 2 Kilmarnock Harriers who lined on a fairly blustery morning.

The race was won by Springburn athlete Michelle Sandison but both Laura Haggarty and Claire Orr were to finish high up in the overall standings with the Killie duo finishing well inside the top 100 finishers. Both women have been running well of late and it was no surprise to see Laura finish as high as 19th position, with Claire finishing not too far behind in another fine run.

Killie times were – 19th Laura Haggarty 43.34, 84th Claire Orr 47.53.

A couple of days before that, at Scotstoun Stadium in the North end of Glasgow, Gordon Reid was competing in a British Milers Club 3,000 metres race. Gordon ran his best time for the distance in a while by coming home 2nd in his heat and a time of 9.46 was highly decent and just reward for some high quality training in recent weeks.

All this of course is in build up to Sundays “Roon The Toon” 10k race in Kilmarnock. The event is now a total sell out with 1,500 signed up and with the event also being the West District 10K Championship as well as featuring many people taking on 10K for the first time, the day is sure to be a big success and something the town can be proud of.
