WEST DISTRICTS CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS 2015

HARRIERS TAKE ON THE TOUGHEST CONDITIONS OF THE YEAR AT THE WEST DISTRICTS XC CHAMPS
Sunday afternoon (6/12/15) saw hundreds of athletes from the West Coast of Scotland take part in West District Cross Country Championships at Bellahouston Park, and with titles up for grabs, the chance to gain selection at Inter District level, as well as Kilmarnock Harriers Senior Club Championship points to be won, an impressive turnout from the Harriers took part.
In the Junior ranks, arguably performance of the day saw young Johny Houson turned in a cracking race to take one of the Inter District vests on offer with a 5th place finish in the Under 13 Boys Race.
Throughout all the age groups the Club’s younger athletes put in some great performances to show the future of Kilmarnock is in great shape for the years to come.
In the Senior events, first up were the ladies to take on a course that by now was cutting up badly, and many were slipping, falling, and losing shoes as the day went on.
First home was Michelle Sandison of Springburn Harriers in a repeat of last year’s success, although in the Killie stakes it was Stephanie Hewitt who took full Championship points after a ding dong battle throughout with Kirsteen Salisbury.
Finally, a gruelling day was completed as 226 Senior Men took on 10,000 metres.
With a bit of daylight between himself and the chasing pack, Kyle McLellan of Cambuslang claimed the Title, and once more a number of Killie vests were in pursuit. First past the post for the Club was Connell Drummond ahead of Ross Connelly.
Well done to everyone who took part, with the benefits of this promising to be enormous in the months to come.
