Valley Dash 2019 Results

An overcast and windy, but thankfully dry, late summer evening  saw 33 intrepid Harriers take on the  individual club handicap – The Valley Dash – a challenging 7.25 kilometre  circuit, featuring a combination of road, hill and trail racing.

The hill section of the course pretty much begins from the start, which some runners struggle with, not having the benefit of a chance to warm up. However, this did not worry this years winner Jamie Nix who ran away from the field, finishing, to the handicappers embarrassment, a full 3 and a half minutes in front of second placed Matt Dodds. Doreen Wales, in her first Valley Dash came in 49 seconds behind Matt to take 3rd place. (handicapper note – having no previous notification of Jamie’s particiption, a last minute handicap was based on his last 10K time. What the handicapper forgot was that this was in the searing heat of Saltcoats which was not replicated last night!).

Second worst handicap was given to Nataliya Petkova which resulted in her coming in at the back of the field (sorry Nataliya, I had only your 2017 form to go on). On the positive side, 20 of the 33 runners (60%) were within 1 minute of prediction, with Kenneth Dudgeon being only 2 seconds out.

Fastest man on the night was Richard Mair and fastest woman home was Lorna Baird.
