U16 girls 4x 200m relay team in action and Cameron's new PB at Scottish Senior Championships

Kilmarnock Harriers entered one U16 girls team for the National Indoor 200m relays Championships, which was held at the Emirates Stadium in Glasgow. This was a first experience on a bigger stage for the four young Harriers Claire Orr, Shona McBean, Rebecca Tennant and Lauren Hyslop.

The relay team was made up of sprinters and endurance runners and had a tough heat, running against Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Whitemoss, Livingstone and Dunfermline. Unfortunately, the Kilmarnock team was disqualified due to a rule infringement but would have easily dipped under the 2 minute barrier, as they were well in front of the Dunfermline team. Two teams from this heat, Edinburgh and Whitemoss, made it all the way through to the final, which the rival Ayrshire team AyrSeaforth ‘A’ won in time of 1:48.09.  Despite this mishap all four athletes had a great day out and enjoyed their trip to the Glasgow Indoor arena.

Two U20 athletes competed at the Senior Championships, which had a high class field of athletes competing such as Olympian Lee McConnel and many Scottish Record holders like Jade Nimmo (long jump) and Allan Smith (high jump). Cameron Mackie and Roy Shankland competed in the 400m event and came third and fourth in their respective heat: Roy clocking 51.57 and Cameron 52.18, which was a new PB for Cameron. Well done to all athletes who competed at this event, which offered even an entertainment element for spectators and competitors alike. Our own athletes certainly seem to have enjoyed the funny side of this event .
