Tommy Wright

I am aware that a fair number of club members are also Killie FC supporters so I thought they might be interested to know that our new manager was also a talented runner as a schoolboy and was considering an athletics scholarship in the USA before football finally turned his head.

Among his many noteworthy performances are a 3 min 57 sec 1500 metres in a schoolboy international at Meadowbank, a record beating 5 consecutive Ulster Cross Country Championships and selection for the Junior Men’s World Cross Country Championships in Madrid in 1981.

Following his success in leading St Johnstone to a Scottish Cup win in 2014, Scottish Athletics did a special feature on Tommy’s running career in PB magazine. It is reproduced below with thanks to Scottish Athletics.

I am sure we all wish Tommy well with his new challenge and hope he can keep Killie in the Premiership and then lead them on to bigger and better things.

…………….and if he ever fancies a run?
