Summer Road Running Championships Update

Please find the latest club championship points in the links below, following the North Ayrshire 10K. A number of Harriers braved the blustery conditions to post good times around the route starting and finishing at the track in Saltcoats.

First home in the men’s championship was Jim Connelly in a closely fought contest with Mark Alexander. He takes the 15 points for the 2nd time this season following his championship victory at the Dundonald 10K. Mark’s 14 points moves him into 2nd place in the championship with only one race to go. John Tougher remains top for the moment, closely followed by Mark, Scott and Stuart. It should make for an epic finale to the championship in Millport on Sunday.

In the women’s race Stephanie Hewitt claimed maximum points in her first championship race this season. In the overall points Lynne has cut Amanda’s lead to just 4 points going into the last race with Jacqui not too far behind. With the top 2 both having completed 7 races Amanda will be looking to hold onto her 1st place following the Around Cumbrae 10 mile race.

We have received a few questions concerning the rules for the championships. I just want to remind everyone that to receive the points for the full 7 races you have to have competed in at least 1 short, 1 medium and 1 long race. If you have only competed in 2 distances i.e. a short and a long or a medium and a short you will receive points for a maximum of 6 races. If you have only competed over 1 distance category i.e short, medium or long you will be eligible for points in a maximum of 5 races.

After the final race, we will be looking to collate the marathon points. If you have done one that has not been included, or plan to do one before the end of October, please let us know.

One final note, whilst we try to ensure the updates to the championships are as accurate as possible, mistakes can sometimes happen. If you notice any mistakes, please let us know and we will endeavour to have these sorted  as soon as possible.
