Spring into Summer with new Knowledge

Coach Development for Spring into Summer

Club is hosting three new and exciting workshops in the next three months. These workshops have been put together to assist the coaches in developing knowledge across multiple events.

Given the excellent workshop delivered by Allan Scott, Olympic athlete over the sprint hurdles, the club are doing a follow up on “Maximal Speed Running” and “Sprint Starts”.

Details

Sunday 24th March                           Maximal Speed Running                                 Allan Scott

Saturday 27th April                           Sprint Starts                                                       Chris Baillie

Sunday 5th May                                 Javelin                                                                  Robert Wilkie

All sessions will start at 09.30 and finish for 12.30 at the Ayrshire Athletics Arena.

Maximal Speed Running will assist all coaches delivering running sessions. This session will look at the biomechanics of running and how to maximise speed in whatever event they are running and training for. The session will benefit all athletes from 60m through to 3000m, with limited benefit for road runners.

Sprint Starts will look at the basics of starting from the blocks. This will be beneficial to any coach who delivers speed sessions to athletes participating in events up to 400m. This will be ideal for coaches working with Under 13 up, giving the athletes the opportunity to hone their starting skills, making them faster.

Javelin is a very technical event, producing massive stresses through the body of any athlete. This session will help coaches develop a greater understanding of Javelin and how you deliver a skill based session to all athletes. The session will demonstrate how to develop a RAMP warm up for Javelin, building on the warm ups already delivered in Long Jump and Shot Putt. This session is appropriate to all coaches working in multi-events and any coach looking to develop their coaching knowledge in throws.

The Lead Coaches delivering these sessions are some of the best coaches in the country, with Allan and Chris having represented Scotland at the commonwealth Games, where Chris won a Silver in 2006. Robert Wilkie is the leading coach in Javelin in Scotland and has been engaged in delivering CPD workshops for over ten years.

There is a need for athletes for all the above sessions, as with all workshops, the athletes should be second year Under 13 and above. If there are any athletes under this age, please speak to your coach and Jim Goldie, expressing an interest in attending.

Can all coaches please let Jim Goldie know if you are attending the sessions, email: pdo@kilmarnockharriers.com or speak to Jim Goldie at the club.
