A wee roundup of the last couple of weeks racing.

On Saturday 7th March David McLure headed to better climates in Gran Canaria to take on the 65km (just over 40 miles) trail race which is part of the Trans Gran Canaria event. Davids route crossed some of the most outstanding natural scenes of Gran Canaria with an elevation gain of 2,525m. (The featured picture above shows just a snippet of the terrain and hills involved). On Sunday 8th March, the Inverness Half Marathon took place. Starting alongside the banks of the River Ness near the centre, then taking in many of the city’s icons and finishing in Queens Park Stadium at Inverness Sports Centre. Two Kilmarnock Ladies took on this event and both done extremely well. Lorna Baird finished in a great time of 01:27:18 gaining herself a new PB and Lynn Brown with a great time of 01:56:19. Well done Ladies!! p.s. Get yer vests oan!!

The Balloch to Clydebank Half Marathon took place on Sunday 15th March. Due to some flooding on the route there was an alteration to the start. Steven Robson and Paul Markac took on this mostly flat route from Balloch to Clydebank. Both runners done extremely well with Steven achieving yet another PB with a time of 01:22:10 and finishing 58th overall. Paul also had a great run, finishing in a time of 01:29:26 and finishing 109th overall. Well done to the both of you!!

Many Races Cancelled!

As we are all aware, because there is no avoiding it wherever you go just now, the Covid-19 virus has caused disruption to many upcoming running events. It is always disappointing when events get cancelled due to circumstances out of our hands. But runners being runners, don’t let things like that get us down too much and everyone is trying to keep each others spirits high. Many have been training for events from half to full marathons, from reasonably local to further afield. All we can do is keep training hard and although its disappointing we can’t race the events, our and everyone else’s health is more important. There’s always another race! keep smiling!!! 🙂
