Senior Event Round-up 27th April 2023

Since our last report, the spring season has really started to pick up pace, with Harriers posting some
great results across the disciplines in the last few weeks including the first marathons of the season.
On the 15 th of April, multi-eventer Brooke Dunlop took 4 th place in the shot putt with a season best
throw of 8.05m at the Scottish National Athletics League at Grangemouth – great start to the
outdoor season Brooke!

The 16 th of April saw 3 Harriers travel to Manchester for the Adidas Manchester Marathon. First
home in a fantastic PB time of 3:02:06 was Josh Raeburn, with Brian O’Connor crossing the line not
long later in 3:11:11. Victoria Deane rounded up the results with a very fine 4:16:30 – well done to
all of our marathon runners – a great start to marathon season for the club.

On the 19 th of April Roddie Pugh took on the Kaim Hill Race at Fairlie, finishing 70 th overall in a time of
42:48. Roddie was then back out in the hills again on Saturday the 22 nd of April, completing the
Cobbler Hill Race in 57 th place in 1:21:31. Also running up and down hills on the 22 nd was Jonathon
Downey who finished a very close 2 nd place in the U20 Dumyat Hill race.

The 22 nd of April also saw a comeback from Kirsty McNulty, who completed the Harbour Energy 5k
and the Run Balmoral running festival in 25:29 – great to see you back racing Kirsty!

Sunday the 23 rd was the big one for a number of our runners – the TCS London Marathon. First
home in blue and white with an outstanding debut was Craig Ferguson who completed in 2:32:31.
Also running his debut marathon was David Sherrington – you may remember that David won his
place in the marathon by winning the summer road league last summer – and his efforts were
rewarded with a 2:49:29. Doreen Wales had a great run completing in 4:30:05 and despite some
injury woes Brian Darroch completed in 5:18:01. Although not officially representing Kilmarnock on
the day, a number of our newer members also posted some excellent results – Megan Jane
Campbell completed in 3:37:35, Greg Leitch ran 3:46:46, David Gallagher finished in 4:45:33 and Ellie
Gallagher completed her first marathon in 5:57:15. Looking forward to seeing you all run in blue and
white this season!

Travelling in the opposite direction on Sunday, Steven Robson struck north to take on the Hidden
Glen 10k – widely recognised as one of the toughest 10ks in Scotland with some eye watering
elevation and challenging terrain. However, the marathon training is obviously paying off and
Steven completed in 46:16 – 27 th overall and 11 th V40 – great running!

Rounding up the report this week is the second of our summer championship races – the Ron’s
Runners Spring 5k. Held in and around the beach park in Irvine, this race is always popular and
usually a happy hunting ground for the Harriers and this year was no different! A total of 20
athletes took part (full results available on whatsmytimeresults.co.uk) with no fewer than 8 Harriers
finishing in the top 3 of their age categories and several prizes won. First harrier home in 16:20 after
a very close finish to take 2 nd overall and 1 st U20 was Jonathon Downey, with Scott Masterton second
Kilmarnock man back in 17:49 (4 th overall and 2 nd Senior man) and Colin Anderson third man home in
19:16 for 12 th overall and 3 rd V40. For the ladies, it was a first senior race outright win for U20
athlete Ellie Anderson who ran a fantastic 20:30 – great to see our young talent at the top of the
podium. Amanda Bryden was 2 nd harrier back in 3 rd female overall and 2 nd senior woman (20:45) and
Izzy Caufield and Sasha I’Anson crossed the line together in 23:32 though the results place Izzy
higher. These two were 2 nd and 3 rd U20 ladies respectively so a clean sweep for the U20s for the
ladies! Also claiming an age group top 3 place was Michael Corson who was 30 th overall and 2 nd V60.

Huge well done to ALL athletes who took part on the day, league tables have now been
updated based on the results published. Neil Todd takes an early lead in the men’s table, and Lorna
Baird and Ellie Anderson share the top spot in the ladies with all to play for in the coming months.
