Scottish Veteran Harriers 5K Road Race (report by Keith Haining)

Below report by Keith Haining….

Four YOUNG Killie runners headed to Clydebank on Wednesday evening for short blast around the three and a half lap 5k road run which took place in an industrial estate near the town’s Playdrome centre.
An almost flat course favoured a quick time but with a long stretch into a headwind on the slight uphill section meant Paula Wilson, Lindsay McMahon, Scott Martin and Keith Haining would need to work hard for a good time.
The race kicked off at a fast pace set by race winner Robert Gilroy with Scott and Keith running in the top ten and Lindsay and Paula both running in the top three of the Ladies race.

As the race progressed Keith and Scott picked up a few places with Keith producing an unusual sprint finish in the last 200m to take third place overall in a time of 16m34s.
Scott wasn’t too far behind hitting his target of sub 17mins finishing 5th in 16min 55s continuing his recent good form.
Lindsay was happy to finish in under 20mins in 19mins 55s and second overall in the ladies race and also 30seconds quicker than last week’s club 5k track race.
Paula was delighted with her third place and also her time of 21mins 12s,sub 22 being her goal.
On the return journey home Paula treated us to the forth playing of her Frank Turner cd and as an added bonus she turned the volume up slightly as a reward for all four of us having good runs
