Ruby’s Run Report

Bright sunshine greeted the 26th running of Ruby’s Race, which now includes an increasingly popular kids 1 mile fun run. This no doubt boosted the attendance resulting in 139 entries for the 5K and 72 for the 1 mile.

In the ladies race Laura Wallace of Ayr Seaforth, a very regular competitor at our events, was first home to claim the Ruby Young Trophy. She was followed by our own Stephanie Hewitt in 2nd place and Laura Haggarty in 3rd.

It was a Killie 1,2,3 in the men’s event which was dominated from the start by in form Richard Mair. Richard finished 1st in a record time of 15:57. Robert Lindsay was 2nd just 3 seconds in front of Gordon Reid in 3rd.

However the real winners on the day were Ayrshire Cancer Support who will benefit from just over £1500 in entrance fees. They will also receive a further £179 from the raffle, brilliantly organised by the Mum’s On The Run group. Thanks to them and to everyone who donated prizes.

There are some brilliant photographs of the race taken by Mike Scott. These are on the Gallery tab above and then just select the Ruby’s Run album.

The event would not be the success it was without the generous support of the following :-

East Ayrshire Vibrant Communities – for their donation of prize vouchers

Tesco – for the provision of water and fruit

Kilmarnock Football Club – for allowing Nutz to entertain us

Adam and Lee from the AAA – for going the extra mile on the day

The members and friends of Kilmarnock Harriers for competing, administering and marshaling the event

And finally to our main event sponsor – Worksmart Contracts

Happy Halloween.Worksmart_Logos-12-05-15
