The workshop offered a wealth of knowledge and practical tips for all coaches covering topics from sprint, jumps and throws. The workshop was led by high calibre coaches such as sprints coach Rodger Harkins (coach of Olympic athlete Lee McConnel), Mark Pollard (Scottish Athletics Endurance Coach), Scottish jumps coach John Scott, who coached many athletes to native records and Malcolm Fenton, the experienced throws coach.

The sessions covered the following topics:

  • Practical Session – Running Mechanics for Speed and efficiency- Rogder Harkins
  • Athletes Planning – Mark Pollard
  • Practical Session – Plyometrics and jumps – John Scott
  • Practical Session – Conditioning and Throws Malcolm Fenton

Overall this was an excellent workshop, which offered useful advice and practical tips to coaches of all disciplines. These workshops are in particular suitable for new coaches or assistant coaches, who are still doing their coaching qualification or have just achieved their coaching award.

Scottish athletics will be holding further workshops throughout the year, which will be advertised on their web site.
