National Cross Country Relays at Cumbernauld

Athletes from the junior section were in action last Saturday at the National Cross Country Relays Championships, which were held at Cumbernauld. 5 girls teams and 4 boys teams represented the blue and white colours. This year saw a great turnout with a total of 24 athletes competing against the best in Scotland and credit to our endurance coaches who prepared our youngsters for this very demanding course. The course at Cumbernauld, 2.5 km for all age groups, is generally regarded as one of the hardest cross country courses in the winter calendar. The junior relay teams consist of three different age groups U13/U15 and U17; starting with the U13, passing over to the U15 and with the U17 athletes finishing the race. As Kilmarnock struggled to field U17 athletes, a number of younger athletes were asked to move up an age group in order to make up a complete team. Well done to all athletes who braved the tough course, for many this was a first time they competed at this level. The results were as follows:

Girls teams: 57th place – girls B (37:32): Erin Pastulovic (U13) 13:12 Phoebe McCutcheon (U13) 12:29 Claire Orr (U15) 11:51 / 68th place – girls C (39:32) Erin Barbour (U13) 15:25 Sophie Rowan (U13) 12:32 Caitlin McClounie (U15) 11.35 / 75th place – girls A (40:59) Erin Connelly (U13) 15:08 Olivia Cochrane (U15) 13:34 Lorne Kerr (U17) 12:17 / 77th place girls D (41:15) Natalie Sharp (U13) 14:17 Leonie McCutcheon (U13) 13:56 Shona McBean (U15) 13:02 / girls (E) 26:28 Kayleigh Duff (U13) 13:38 Lauren Greig (U13) 12:50
