Race roundup of the last couple of weeks.

On Sunday 19th January, Kilmarnock Harriers held their open cross country race, Roon the Country. Eighteen senior Kilmarnock Runners took on the pretty flat, fast course. First in for the Killie ladies was Kirsty Alexander with a great run in a time of 37:36 finishing 6th overall. Kirsty also takes the 10 points for the winter champs. Following Kirsty was Lindsay Johnson, Kirsty McNulty and Paula Wilson. Well done Ladies.

For the men, first in for Killie Harriers and 2nd overall was Gavin Hogarth in a great time of 30:51 and Gavin also takes the 10 points for the winter champs. Coming in 4th overall just behind Gavin was Craig Ferguson. Well done to all 14 men running. Fantastic running and great times. The men also came away with the first male team, consisting of Gavin Hogarth, Craig Ferguson and Dan Thompson, well done!!

The winter champs points for the ladies now sees Paula and Kirsty joint lead at the top, with Kirsty McNulty sitting second. Craig Ferguson leads for the men with Jamie in 2nd and Murray in 3rd.

Next race up for the winter champs is The National cross country championships at Falkirk on Saturday 22nd February. This is a tough but great xc race. So if you haven’t already done so, then give your name to either Amanda or Robert if you are wanting to race.

Last weekend was the British Cross Challenge and Inter-Districts Cross Country that were held in Stirling. True cross country conditions were underfoot, with it being very wet and muddy. Kara Tait ran representing Scotland West, finishing in a great time of 32:54. Another Kilmarnock Harrier that took on the course was Scott Martin, running in a great time of 34.30. The Great Stirling Castle Run is also held as part of the same day which is a tough 7km race up to and back down from Stirling Castle. Well done to Harrier Nicholas Carter for taking that one on.

Back to Saturday 18th Jan, when Jennifer Beattie went up to the open meet at the Emirates and raced the 400m with a pb run of 70:21. Well done Jennifer and to all the juniors that day.

Whilst everyone was getting cold and a tiny bit muddy on the Sunday 19th, Scott Martin was away to Carlisle for a 10k. Scott had a really good race finishing in a fantastic time of 36:29 and was 13th overall with a 1st in his age category. Well done Scott, great racing!!
