PB’s galore in the years first main Half Marathon!

Kilmarnock Harrier - News & Events

Alloa Half produces excellent results.

A great benchmark to a number of people’s hard Winter training came to light on Sunday as one of the first main Half Marathon’s of 2013 took place in Alloa, the 31st staging of the towns event.

A measure of the popularity of the race was shown in the fact that entries were filled well in advance of the run and on the day a massive 1251 athletes lined up as the gun went off at 10am for the 13.1 mile road race. An undulating course, times are nevertheless traditionally fast and as such a number of people were hoping to do well.

A number of personal bests were achieved by, amongst others, Natalie Boyce, Lynn McCaffrey, Louise Hamilton and Scott Martin who were all chuffed with their efforts.

Possibly performance of the day however came from Mark Alexander who in running his first proper Half Marathon easily smashed his 90 minute target. Mark’s 86 minute effort set’s him up perfectly for May’s Edinburgh Marathon and he can be rightly pleased.

Mentions also to Ian Logan who also ran but unfortunately took ill early on in the race.

Killie times and positions were

23rd Scott Martin 1.15.52, 145th Mark Alexander 1.26.12, 146th Les McDerment 1.26.30, 290th Gerry Dodds 1.34.33, 386th Brian Darroch 1.37.04, 516th Natalie Boyce 1.42.26, 517th Kenny Wales 1.42.27, 496th Liz McDerment 1.44.32, 697th Louise Hamilton 1.48.50, 789th Lynn McCaffrey 1.51.53, 958th Jackie McCulloch 1.59.01
