13 young Harriers made the short trip to Linwood to compete at the third open graded meeting of this season. Weather conditions were good with sunshine, warm temperatures and only a slight wind, what a change to previous meeting where it had been pretty cold and windy. Harriers were represented in all sprint events ranging from 100m to 400m, middle distance (800m) and two throwing events shot put and javelin. There were a total of 7 new personal bests set by the youngsters three alone in the 400m sprint – Evan Cornforth (U20) 53.50, Ben O’Neil (U17) 54.25 knocking almost 2 second off his previous PB , Reed Wyper (U17) 56.15.
Evie Bartl (U15) who used this meeting as a preparation for the upcoming National Pentathlon achieved new PBs in both events she competed in- shot put 9.38m and 800m 2.49, knocking off 9 seconds from her previous PB; in multi events terms this translates to an increase of 85 points.
Newly joined Zaya McMillan-Grant (U15) improved her shot put by over 60cm throwing a new best of 8.62m. Coach Harald Bartl had a good throwing sequence with all throws over the 8m mark and achieved a new PB of 8.59m. Master athlete Tommy Wyper (M55) had also a good javelin competition throwing a seasonal best of 25.20m.
