North Ayrshire Athletics Club 10k – Sunday 02/09/2018

The North Ayrshire Athletics Club 10k was held last Sunday.  There were eight Harriers who took part in an ever popular race (with 460 in total completing it this year).

There were some excellent times in the race.  For the women the top three were Claire Orr (45:35), Amy Alexander (55:05) and Doreen Wales (55:09).  For the men the top three were John Speirs (39:28), Steven Robson (41:20) and David Anderson (42:41).  Claire Orr’s time deserves an extra special mention as it was very impressive for a junior so well done Claire.

The race results of all Kilmarnock Harriers who finished are as follows:

Position Athlete Name Time
19 John Speirs 00:39:28
35 Steven Robson 00:41:20
49 David Anderson 00:42:41
75 Douglas Thorburn 00:45:05
79 Claire Orr 00:45:35
244 Amy Alexander 00:55:05
245 Doreen Wales 00:55:09
250 Jacqui Sandler 00:55:24

The full results can be found in this link.

The Summer Championship 2018 table has now been updated for both the women and men in this race.  There are no changes to the top three in the women’s table with Amanda Bryden, Rhona O’Neill and Jacqueline McConnell retaining the top three positions.  It is a similar case with the men’s table with no changes in the top three, which is still Steven Robson, Connell Drummond and David McLure.

Summer Championship 2018 – Men

The next race is the Round Cumbrae 10 mile on Sunday 16/09/2018.  This course has proven very popular with the Harriers in the past and offers a very scenic run around the isle of Cumbrae starting and ending in Milport.  The online entry deadline is 14/09/2018 and there are no signups on the day.  At the time of writing there were 313 signed up out of a maximum total of 500 – I would recommend signing up for this one soon to avoid disappointment!  Click here to sign up.

Following this, the final race of the Summer Championship takes place on Sunday 23/09/2018 in the form of the Dumfries Half Marathon.  This is a new one for this year’s Summer Championship and should offer something new and different for our runners.  The online entry deadline is 21/09/2018 and there are no signups on the day.  At the time of writing 114 out of a maximum total of 250 had signed up so please sign up soon to avoid disappointment.  Click here to sign up.

We will shortly be posting details about the races for the Winter Championship 2018-19 so please keep an eye on the news stories for this one.  We are also planning on doing a time trial (a similar idea to last year with three laps of the 1360 route at the Kay Park) to get an idea of how to group people for the relay races so please do come along and take part.

Once again well done to all the runners in Saltcoats and to all those who came in support of them.
