LYON MARATHON AND GREAT SCOTTISH RUN

HARRIERS EXCELL IN LYON

On Sunday, months of excellent training came to a head for a couple of Kilmarnock Harriers in Lyon, as France’s 3rd largest City staged it’s annual Marathon.

Connell Drummond and Stewart McAllister were in action, and with personal bests set over all distances in 2015, the formers previous best Marathon time of 2.51 set 2 years ago in Warsaw was always under threat.

Clocking weekly mileage of up to just over 90 miles a week, Connell had set a realistic target of below 2.45 and was delighted to do this with plenty to spare. A time of 2.43.30 is one of the fastest marathons in recent years and rightly he is now looking forward to some deserved recovery time.

Not to be outdone, Stewart was running in his debut Marathon, and had raised hundreds of pounds for charity in the process.

Stewart had set a target of 3.45, and this was also under threat with some excellent recent races and training under his belt.

Smashing his goal in a time of 3.23.59 was an excellent first attempt over 26.2 miles and the 2 clubmates were delighted with their efforts.

As a footnote, Stewart will still accept any donations for his chosen charity the Ayrshire and Arran Health Board Endowment fund and he can be contacted at the Club, or via his Just Giving page.
