Livingston Road Relays……and Liverpool Half.

NATIONAL ROAD RELAYS SIGNAL THE END OF THE WINTER

Sunday saw the end of the traditional Winter running season as longstanding venue Livingston once more hosted the 4/6 Stage Scottish National Road Relays.

So called as Ladies field 4 athletes per team while the Men field a couple of extra runners, each leg alternates between short (3.15 miles) and long (5.8 miles) legs, and the course can best be described as undulating.

Unfortunately Kilmarnock were unable to field a full ladies team on this occasion, however Kara Tait ran the first short leg on her own and got a very worthwhile race under the belt in the process. Kara clocked a time of just over 18 minutes to come in an excellent 2nd lady at the end of the first and only leg for Killie,

Happily, the Men did field a full quota and making his debut in the race John Parker showed that his recent excellent marathon training was coming to fruition with an excellent run of 19.21 to kick off proceedings.

Scott Martin took on the 2nd leg, and first longer distance run for the team, and clocked 33.41 to gain a few places and bring the team in relatively high up the quality field.

Stewart MacAllister came down in distance from last week’s Half Marathon to clock a very decent 21.56 in the next short leg while another debutant Tony Rodden (long leg 35.23), Brian Darroch (short 24.38), and Connell Drummond, who was taking the race as prep for a 10 mile race next week and ran a 36.12 long leg, brought the team home n a very respectable position.

LYDEN BROTHERS SHINE BY THE MERSEY

Mark and Scott Lyden enjoyed a successful weekend by running in the Liverpool Half Marathon on Sunday.

Running 1.54 half’s in both Barcelona and Inverness recently, Mark ran a superb 1.45.53 and seconds off of his pb from 2002. Not to be outdone, improving Scott ran a shiny new lifetime best of 1.25.36 and the likeable brothers rightly can be proud of their efforts gaining deserved rewards to kick off British Summer Time.
