KILLIE MASSES HEAD TO LAND O’ BURNS

Last Wednesday, an army of Kilmarnock Harrier athletes took the short hop across the county for the next instalment of the Club Summer Championship at the hugely popular and brilliantly organised Ayr Seaforth Land O’ Burns 10K Road Race.

A large number of pre entries added to those registering on the night meant that the host Club considered closing entries in the lead up to the 7.30pm race start, but thankfully all competitors were able to line up at the race start near the shore.

UK Police Cross Country Champion Cameron Wilson headed Kilmarnock entrants and despite not at his fittest due to recent injuries etc he was always going to be the local man to beat. At the halfway point eventual race winner Craig Reid from Bellahouston Road Runners had opened up a lead but in hot pursuit was Cameron and Ayr Seaforth athlete Kenny Neil who was having a stormer and would go on to smash his lifetime best over the 6.2 mile distance.

A number of other Killie athletes were occupying top 10 places while pb assaults were going on all over the field a bit further down.

At the line, Keith Haining joined Cameron in a top 4 position but tellingly large lifetime best times were to be achieved by John Parker, Jacqueline and Dan McConnell, Rhona O’Neill, Laura Moffat, Stephanie Dale and Emmy Dodds amongst others.

Others weren’t far away from pb’s, while a number of runners achieved target times for the new Club Standards scheme by achieving Bronze, Silver, Gold and Gold Plus landmarks, details of which can be found on the Club website.

On a great night for running, some early Kilmarnock Harrier results in a large field were –
