Kirkmichael Gala Day host their 3rd Annual 10K

On Saturday the 27th May, Kirkmichael Gala day was held and the Kirkmichael Gala Day Childrens race set of (with deflated horn) at 1pm. One hour later and with more control of the starting Horn, the Kirkmichael Gala day 10Km Race set off from outside the playing field with 33 starters.

Starting at the top of the field the course turns left heading towards Dalrymple road, over the bridge and left toward Maybole Road where it leaves Kirkmichael on the road towards Minishant. The next Up 3km is ran on this road going past the Crosshill and Maybole turn offs before turning left at 4km onto even more rural roads. This road then heads up the way at the water stop around 5.2km into the race where it then inclines for the next 2km. At the 7.2km point you then head mostly downhill back into the village with a short sharp hill at 9.2km. Then it’s back over the bridge, back toward the top of the playing field, emtering the field at the top in to the heart of the Gala.

2015 winners, Ayr Seaforth’s Kenny Neill and Laura Wallace came back to regain victory with times of 35:39 and 40:25 respectively which aren’t far off the Course records and highly rspectable times over this far from flat course. 2nd and 3rd overall were brothers George (40:02) and John Ross (40:23) who battled it out for next positions. 1st Male Vet though went to Kilmarnock Harrier, Davie White who would have seen far worse hill than today.

2nd Female was Ellie Homewood (43:37) with a familiar face to local races, Kilmarnock Harrier’s, Amanda Bryden (50:42) coming in as 3rd woman. 1st U21 going to Local young man, William Limond.
