Kilmarnock Harriers contribute to overall success of Ayrshire Harriers in Youth Development League

The composite team Ayrshire Harriers, which is made up from athletes from the three Ayrshire athletics clubs Ayr Seaforth, Kilmarnock Harriers and North Ayrshire AC had a successful third league meeting, finishing second place with 544 pts behind Edinburgh AC (595.5 pts)and in front of Giffnock North AC (536 pts). This means that the Ayrshire Harriers qualified again for the Scottish final, which be held on 28th July 2013 at Grangemouth Stadium.

Four Kilmarnock boys competed in the U13 age group. On the track Aidan Hesset finished 6th A string 100m in 14.74 and David Stark coming 5th in the 200m A string clocking 29.01. In the field events Dylan McBean throw the javelin 17.24m for 6th place and achieved the same place in the shot put with a throw of 4.39m. David Stark had a fine long jump with 4.17m for 4th and the same place in the high jump with a clearance of 1.30m. Team mate Jamie Nelson finished third in the B string long jump leaping 4.06m.

The U13 girls were represented by 6 Kilmarnock athletes who in sprints, hurdles, throwing events and jumps. Erin Connolly run the A string 75m and clocked 11.22 for 7th place and Hilda Mtawali came 4th in the B string with a time of 11.1. Lauren Greig won the A strong 150m comfortably with a new PB of 19.69. Sophie Rowan finished 7th in the A strong 70m hurdles with 12.96 and Natalie Sharp finished 6th in the B string with a time of 15.64.

Our shot putters Kayleigh Duff came fourth in the A string with 5.72m and Eilidh Gardiner 2nd in the B string with 5.43m. Sophie Rowan competed in the jump events and leaped 3.68m in the long jump for 5th place B string but excelled in the high jump with a massive new PB of 1.35m, which placed her 3rd in the A string.

Cameron Wilson was again our sole representative in the U15 boys securing a 2nd place in the B string 100m in 12.28 for a new PB and also 2nd in the A string 200m finishing 24.59, which is closed to his PB. Cameron also came 1st in the B string discuss with 23.96m for another PB.

Six U15 girls competed in sprints, middle distance and the throwing events. Caitlin McClounie came 6th in the 100m B string and Laura Fulton finished 7th in the B string 200m. Olivia Cochrane finished 8th place A string 800m in 2.42 and Shona McBean run 2.47.26 for 7th place B string. Lauren Park finished 5th in the 1500m race with a time of 5.56.32. Evie Bartl, represented the field events and made it 2 out of 3 wins, wining comfortably the javelin with a throw 26.31m and the discus with a throw of 21.53m. Evie won also the B string in the shot put with a decent put of 8.37m.

 

Reed Wyper’s report for the U17 athletes

For the U17 age group, Ryan Crolla started off with the 100mH and came 5th in a time of 18.10, scoring 5 points for the Ayrshire team. Laura Duncan ran 27.65 for the girls 200m A string and Anna Balls won the B string race in a time of 27.18. Hannah Bartl crossed the line in 4th place in the A string 100m and ran a time of 13.76, just shy of her PB. Caitlin White ran the B string in 2nd place and a time of 13.05- a PB.

In the field events, Ryan Crolla also competed in pole vault and vaulted 2m after no training at all. He was busy in the field events when he jumped 5.16m in the long jump.
Hannah Bartl scored 8 points for the Ayrshire team when she won the A string shot putt with a throw of 7.59.

The U17 men relay team came 2nd in a time of 46.97 and the women’s team came 2nd as well clocking 53.02.
