The club had a number of our Masters Athlete’s competing at their National Championships at Grangemouth Athletics Stadium today. Kicking the day off for the club in the Hammer was throws coach Alex McIntosh in the 55-59 years category which he won with a throw of 34.06m. Enroute to becoming National Champion he emulated one of his own athletes by hitting an upright in the cage and wrecking the hammer in the process.

Sprinter Anna Walker was up next in the 35-39 age group category of the 100m, that she won, in a new pb of 13.83sec’s.

Next on the track was the clubs veteran international athlete Lindsay McMahon in the 3000m 40-44 age group category. Lindsay had a very steady run finishing with a time of 11.29.79mins winning the silver medal in the process.

Then we were onto multi events coach Harald Bartl in the High Jump 55-59 age group. Harald had a spectacular jump of 1.51m to win the Gold medal and set a new championship record for that age group.

Meanwhile Alex McIntosh was back out in the throws circle this time throwing the Discus, which despite throwing a bit off par, he still managed to claim the Gold medal with a throw of 28.46m.

The next event up was the big confrontation of the day for the club. That was Alex Mcintosh and Harald Bartl in the Javelin. Alex was still the holder of the championship record in a younger category at this event something that he was proud of and Harald freshly fueled by his own championship record was up for it. It was a close competition both athletes peppering the 30m line until that is, Alex championship record was broken in the younger category, much to his dismay. Alex was next up to throw when he let out a monster throw of 36.40m to take the Gold medal and set a new championship record in his age group category by almost a meter. Harald claimed the Silver medal with his best throw of 30.33m.

During the javelin showdown club stalwart Scott Martin was on track in the 5000m 45-49 age group. Scott showed dogged determination throughout his run to claim the silver medal in a time of 17.25mins. (sorry did not get the tenths)

Last run of the day went to Robert Lindsay in the 800m 40-44 age group. From the gun Robert made his intent clear that he was not going leave the track without having given his all. He blasted through the first lap in 61 secs closely following the leader. During the final lap the pace started to tell for Robert but he dug deep to find a sprint in the home straight which saw him take the Silver medal with a time of 2.07.47mins.

All in all this was a fantastic performance by an older generation of club athletes from whom all in the club should take inspiration.

Well done to all of them.
