Kilkmichael Gala Day 10Km Race

On the 28th May, the Sun shone on the 2nd Annual Kirkmichael Gala Day as 7 Kilmarnock Harriers stood on the 10K start line amongst others for the 4th race on the Senior Summer Road Racing Championship. This race, based on the original Gala Day course was reinvented as an accurately measured 10K course by Kilmarnock Harriers in 2015 and is now ran along with a Kids 1 mile fun run.

The course goes through the main streets of Kirkmichael before heading towards Minishant on a quiet road cutting in at the 4K mark to even more rural roads. The scenic but hilly course then goes through quiet road until reaching the water point (around 5.5km into the course) where for the next 1.5km it is uphill until just beyond the 7Km mark where the rest of the race is mainly downhill with the course returning to Kirkmichael. The last 1Km is mainly back through Kirkmichael finishing in the Gala Day field amongst the cheers of spectators.

The men’s race was won by Tartan Warrior, John Denovan with up and coming Paul Lafferty (Irvine Running Club) coming in 2nd and 1st Kilmarnock Harrier, James Connelly just 4 seconds behind to gain Bronze.
