The hill running season is in full swing with events on midweek and weekends – just about often enough for our hill specialist Roddy Pugh.
Results from Kilmarnock runners over the past few weeks are below. Charles had a great run at Goatfell finishing in 16th position, and has followed this up with good performances, although a little disappointed himself, at Kilpatricks and Cort ma Law.
Roddy ventured into new & distant territory this year taking on Slioch, one of Scotland’s most northerly munros, I a real test of stamina and endurance both in getting there and the race itself.
Club mens captain Cammy Wilson took a break from his work in Arran to join the Goatfell race. Unfortunately after a good ascent which saw him in the top ten (so he tells me!) was hindered by a couple of stumbles and falls on the way down. I’m not sure if he needed medical attention and that’s why he finished with Roddy.
Next up is Durisdeer Hill race which Charles and Stuart Murray (does he know what he’s let himself in for ?)are already pre-entered.
For anyone looking to dip their toe into hill racing a good, local start is the Cairn Table Hill race at Muirkirk on Wednesday 22nd July.
