Hill racing update – Maddy Moss

09.07.14.

A beautiful evening in Tillicoultry, nestling beneath the Ochil Hills, welcomed the runners to this, the tenth in the midweek Bog and Burn Hill series. Going by times, this is the toughest in the series with a short, sharp start followed by a long steep climb to the Law. As usual in the Ochils, once the height is gained, the running is fast and inviting, firstly to the summit of Ben Cleuch, before doubling back to ascend Andrew Gannel.

Once off this summit, it’s a long and fast descent back to finish. Colin Glencorse, running better this year than for some time, dipped under the hour (57-32 for 17th place) and finished in some high class company. A long way back, but running a PB for this race was Roddy Pugh (68-39 for 55th place). The race was won by Joe Symonds (50-16) and 135 runners took part. The course was unusually dry, even the dreaded Maddy Moss itself, and this contributed to the fast times.

The next race in the series is the Cairn Table in Muirkirk on 23rd July at 7pm. This is a straightforward race that would suit roadrunners of all abilities, (and those looking to avoid the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games.)
