We’re delighted to announce that club member Gillian Johnstone was presented with the Ayrshire Sportsability Athlete of the Year Award 2015, at their recent annual awards dinner.

Seventeen year old Gillian’s target for 2015 was to train and run half marathons.  In her first half marathon at Alloa, Gillian became the youngest and fastest visually impaired athlete based on the records of Run Britain / Power of 10, with a time of 1.42.56.  On the same records Gillian is also the second fastest disabled runner.

Through the year she also ran the Coniston 14, Keswick Half Marathon and Loch Leven Half Marathon, and was first female finisher in her age category.

With training interrupted a bit this year for Higher studies, it will resume as she pursues her 2020 Paralympics target.

Also nominated for Athlete of the Year was James Brown, our wheelchair athlete who specialises in the shot putt.  James took up the sport last year and has been training regularly with the Club coaches since.  He took part in the Club championships last year and is looking forward to more competition in 2016.
