Harriers selected for Schools International

The Harriers were represented at the recent Schools International Track and Field event in Swansea, with Josh Smith and Sara Barbour selected to represent Scottish schools.

Here’s some words from Josh and Sara on their experience:

Sara Barbour

“I was honoured to be selected and represent Scotland at the 2019 SIAB Schools Internationals in Swansea. It was an exciting opportunity for me and great to be involved in this competition against the other home nations.

I competed in Pole Vault along with my Scottish colleague against girls from Wales, England and Northern Ireland.

This was a great experience, with excellent facilities and organisation and to top it off the sun was shining on a hot windy summer day in Swansea.

Although I didn’t medal at this event I learned a lot from this experience, picking up some good tips for future events.

There was a great team spirit in the Scotland team and I was proud to be part of the best under 17 athletes from Scotland.”

Josh Smith

“I was delighted to be selected to represent Scottish schools at the SIAB event in Swansea as part of the 4 x 100m relay team.  Representing Scotland and winning a silver medal was a great experience.  The support and encouragement of the club, my coaches and the sprint team have been key in preparing me for competition.“

The Club recognised the achievement of Josh and Sara, as well as the cost of participating by making a donation to both athletes.
