Great Early Season Runs At The Dam Park

Summer Track Season Begins at Dam Park

On Sunday 9th April 2017 the first Open graded of the season took place at Dam Park, Ayr.
First up on this occasion was the 3000m. Richard Mair fresh from his successful indoor track exploits was toeing the line. Richard ran excellent in his debut over the distance on the track. Finishing first in a fast time of 9min04.37. This times bodes well for the remainder of the season and ranks him highly in Scotland.

Next up was the 100m Sprint event. Representing Kilmarnock Harriers were sprint stars Scott Young and Kieran Struthers,middle distance athlete Robert Lindsay and new convert to the track scene Douglas Dickson. Scott and Keiran had a very close battle with only 0.01 separating them with 12.18 and 12.19 respectively also in this race was Robert Lindsay. Robert ran strongly finishing in 13.52secs. Following in the second heat of the day was Douglas. Douglas new to the track ran an excellent debut of 14.72secs.

Closely followed in the day’s events was the highly anticipated contest between training partners and team mates over the 800m distance. In a very tight race with positions changing throughout the finishing line saw James Wales gain the bragging rights in this early stage of the season. Finishing positions were James Wales in 2nd place overall in a time of 2m10.27 secs, Robert Lindsay 3rd in 2m11.20, next was the fast improving Jamie Nix in 2m13.61 closely followed by Gordon Reid in 2min17.58
Also within this race was Stephanie Hewitt who with University races on the horizon was looking to test herself. Stephanie finished in a personal best of 2min27.96secs

Final race of the day was the 400m and this saw 3 athletes competing against each other. Kieran Struthers competing again after his excellent 100m ran strongly in windy conditions to record 53.28sec for 2nd overall. Jamie Nix competing a short time after his Personal best performance in the 800m ran 60.48 for 3rd and Douglas Dickson trying another event for the first time finished in 69.28secs.
