FIRST RACE TICKED OFF IN SENIOR CHAMPS AT LAND O’ BURNS

Last Wednesday, 19 Kilmarnock Harriers joined a field of almost 250 athletes at the now annual Ayr Seaforth organised Land o’ Burns 10K Road Race.

This was the first race in the 2013 Club Championship, and as such a competitive event took place.

First lady on the night was Kara Tait, who added the title to the Troon 10K she won earlier in May and should be happy with another win under the belt. First Harrier past the post was Keith Haining. Keith finished 6th overall to show some return to fitness for the man who not too long ago was regularly clocking 33 minute 10K’s.

Pre Race favourite Kerry Wilson ( RH Cambuslang) won the race in a time of 32.26, with David Phee (Giffnock North) and Alex Allerdyce (Irvine AC) taking the next 2 places.

Mentions too go to Gillian Johnston who had an excellent run, while pb or course best were achieved amongst others by Jacqueline Neil and Jackie McCulloch.

Killie times and positions were –

6th Keith Haining 36.28, 13th Stewart Ferguson 38.01, 15th (1st Female) Kara Tait 38.30, 16th John Cairns 38.39, 17th Connell Drummond 39.03, 28th John Tougher 40.50, 49th David Lowdon 43.54, 59th Stewart McAllister 44.42, 64th Mark Hamilton 45.41, 68th Brian Darroch 46.04, 71st George Laird 46.13, 72nd Stewart White 46.20, 99th Jacqueline Neil 49.09, 138th Jackie McCulloch 52.40, 149th Gillian Johnston 53.34, 178th Alan Anderson 55.39, 186th Pamela Gray 56.54, 225th Christine McShane 65.09, 227th Janice Millar 66.44.

The next race in the Summer Championship takes place at the Ayrshire Athletics Arena on June 18th with a track 5000 metres race. Names must be given in advance for this and should be given to James Wales or Kara Tait by midnight on Sunday June 16th in order to work out seedings for everyone.
