Excellent Performances On The Track And At The Kilmaurs 5K

ROBERT IMPRESSES IN HIS SCOTLAND MASTERS VEST

Following on from his recent double medal winning performances at the Scottish Masters Championships, Kilmarnock Harrier Robert was selected to represent Scotland at the EAMA Inter Area Competition in Solihull. The team based event covers the English counties as well as a separate Scottish and Welsh team, and with many British and European medallists performing, the standard of competition as always was high.

In humid conditions Robert was up first in the V35 category 400m where he took 6th place in a time of 56.81, 1/100 of a second outside of his PB. A couple of hours later this was followed up with 5th position in the 800m race in 2.10 by which time the temperature had reached 27 degrees. Ideal for watching, not so good for racing in!

The day was wrapped up with a first leg run in the 4x100m relay which saw the team get the baton round safely and finish in 5th. Overall Robert earned 11 points for the team, gained invaluable experience performing at a National level competition, and was looking forward to more such selections in the future.

After this, on Friday evening at Glasgow’s Crownpoint Sports Complex, Robert competed over 1,500 metres in the Glasgow Athletics Miler meeting and was delighted with another shiny new pb of 4.29.12. This placed Robert 2nd in his heat and needless to say he is delighted with his excellent recent performances.

At the same Meeting the Scottish Masters 5,000 metres Championships took place and a couple of Kilmarnock athletes were taking part.

Richard Mair clocked a massive lifetime best in Heat B as he ran 16.01.31 and this not only took many an excellent scalp, but won the race overall. Although marginally outside the medals in a tough M35 category on this occasion, with some massive recent improvements he may well look forward to podium positions in the near future.

Also competing was Connell Drummond in the C race. Preparing for an autumn marathon, Connell clocked 17.30.18 for a seasons best and this was excellent prep for the challenges to come.

Last Wednesday evening, a large number of runners took part in the popular Kilmaurs 5k which is turning into an excellent annual event.

With inform Giffnock athlete Luke Trainor winning the race in a superb 14.40, there were some excellent performances from Killie athletes behind. Connell Drummond and Laura Haggarty were first Male and female respectively Harriers home while huge mentions go to Doreen Wales for her remarkable pb of 2.41 off of her previous lifetime best. Russell Duncan too had a great running in securing his 3rd bronze time in the Harriers Club Standards Scheme while all Killie results were (CHIP TIMES) –
