Down By The River 10k 2015

Robert Lindsay, Tony Rodden and Connell Drummond ventured up to Glasgow where Ronhill Cambuslang were hosting the Down By The River 10k. The journey up was an unfortunate one as the aftermath of what looked like 3 individual crashes on the M77 at Fenwick moor due to adverse weather conditions. However the weather temporarily improved when they arrived in Cambuslang on a very scenic route (thanks to Connell’s phone SatNav app).

Registration was at the Rugby club which was over a mile from the start but the jog to the Race start was mainly downhill and a good warm up. The start was on Bogleshole Road near an industrial estate and a Lorry was sitting abandoned less than 50m from the start. This made for a very fast start as people ran to avoid the bottleneck. For the Kilmarnock Harriers (and most the runners) this pace was to continue on for the 1st Kilometer around the estate. However the pace was to drop as the runners went on to the main part of the route which was an in and out loop on the Clyde Riverside.

The route was in wet, but good conditions. The weather though was cold, windy with rain and hailstones at times. After the 1st Kilometer, Robert was now moving away from Connell and Tony but was in Tony’s sight for most the race as he passed Connell around the 4K mark. The conditions in the way out were bad but the conditions in were slightly better. However the weather inĀ general was not good for personal bests with times being down by 1-2 minutes. Official position and times are Robert Lindsay (23rd 36:37 ), Tony Rodden (29th 37:32) and Connell Drummond (32nd 37:43)

Thanks goes to Ronhill Cambuslang for hosting and Marshalling at the Race. For next year if they could organise better weather then that would be great.
