PB’S GALORE AT CLYDEBANK

On Saturday, a number of Kilmarnock athletes took the relatively short trip to Clydebank for the Clydesdale Harriers organised 5k Road Race.

In a course renowned for attracting very quick times by some very fast runners there were pb’s by almost all Harriers in the field with Robert Lindsay being first home for the Club. Ever improving Robert clocked a new personal best time of 17.07 to set himself up for the evenings Awards Night in the Foxbar Hotel where he collected the Men’s Road Racing Championship for 2014.

Next home was another Awards winner in Most Improved Athlete Tony Rodden. Tony clocked another big lifetime best in a great time of 17.17. Packing well and not too far behind  were Connell Drummond (17.37) and Scott Lyden (17.50), with Stewart McRoberts (20.16) and Mark Lyden (22.17) completing the 6 Kilmarnock Men who all had pb’s.

Kara Tait was the only Kilmarnock Woman in the field and finished an excellent 2nd female in the race. Kara was delighted to finish in 17.28 and mere seconds outside of her time in 2014 to set herself up perfectly for the start of the season in earnest.

Also at the weekend, Stewart McAllister was in Half Marathon action at Inverurie. On an extremely undulating  course with a testing last 4 miles, the Shortlees man clocked 1.43.47 and was happy with an excellent run in preparation for this week’s National Road Relays at Livingston where yet again Kilmarnock will be fielding teams.

Finally, and hot on the heels of her outstanding Half Marathon debut in Alloa last weekend, Gillian Johnstone upped the distance a bit to take part in the Coniston 14 Mile Race on a very demanding course.

Once more Gillian had an outstanding run by breaking the 2 hour barrier to easily finish in the top half of the 1123 strong field overall. On top of this, she finished 97th Female and rightly can be proud of the race.
