Bill Lusk

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bill Lusk, aged 93. Bill was one of the club stalwarts for many years as an athlete, committee member and volunteer helper. Although he came late to running, joining us  when he was 51, he squeezed in a lot of miles into his time with the club. A great record keeper, Bill calculated that he had done 32000 miles by his 80th birthday. In doing so he became the Scottish over-60s marathon champ at Lochaber in 1994 and the British over-70s half marathon silver medallist in 2001.   I remember he celebrated his 80th birthday by doing a wee 18 miler Sunday run.

Undoubtedly the highlight of Bill’s running career was competing in the veteran’s world championships in Bruges, Belgium, in 1996, along with great friend and running buddy, Hugh Rankin, and legendary Olympian Emil Zatopek.

His funeral will be held on Thursday 20th June at 1.15pm at Kilmarnock Independent Funeral Directors Church Street Kilmarnock KA3 1AA. Then on to Grassyards cemetery then to the Dean Suite at the Park Hotel to which all Harriers who knew Bill are most welcome, to celebrate his life.
