The trio of Cameron Wilson, Evie Bartl and Lauren Greig, were again in action after their successful mid week meeting at Grangemouth on Wednesday. The young Harriers headed this time to Wishaw Lanarkshire for another Open Graded Meeting. The weekend meeting promised a lot with summer like weather and the young Harriers did not disappoint.
Lauren Greig, U13, had a super competition, making it 3 out of 3 new PBs. Lauren won her 100m heat comfortably by a few meters to spare clocking 13.6. Lauren went then on to the shot put and
was able to replicate what she had thrown the evening before in her training, putting the 2.72kg shot out to a new best of 6.88m. Lauren’s last event was the 200m where she was placed in a heat with u17 athletes and in lane 8, a difficult lane to judge with regard to pacing. Nevertheless Lauren knocked 3 tenths of a second of her previous best crossing the line in 27.69 for another PB.

This was a fine effort from Cameron considering that he achieved this distance with a standing throw. There is reason for optimism that Cameron will be throwing much further once he has mastered the technical aspect of the glide technique, which Alec is presently teaching Cameron.
Evie Bartl, U15, continued with her preparation for next Sunday’s National Pentathlon and decided to concentrate on the two jumps events – long and high jump. Although Evie had plenty of competition experience in the high jump this year, the long jump developed into an orphan event for no specific reason with only two competitive events, both during the indoor season. Evie had a couple of late training jumps on Friday evening, which gave rise to optimism that she can better her previous PB of 4.13m. Evie can be very pleased with her jump sequence, with all 4 jumps exceeding her previous PB, 2 jumps over 4.40 and a best of 4.56m.
Evie then went on to clear 1.35m in the high jump narrowly missing 1.40m, which hopefully can be quickly fixed by adjusting her run up as her upper body was well clear of the height just knocking the bar down when descending.
