BUSY WEEK IN TRACK & FIELD, TRAILS AND THE ROAD

GREAT PERFORMANCES OVER THE WEEKEND WITH NATIONAL MEDALS TAKING PRIDE OF PLACE

The Scottish Masters Track and Field Championships took place in Grangemouth last weekend and weeks of training came to a head successfully for a trio of Kilmarnock Harriers.

In the Field, multiple medallist Harald Bartl added yet another title to his growing collection as he took an outstanding Gold Medal in the Pole Vault, while on the track it was training partners Robert Lindsay and Gordon Reid who excelled in their respective, and highly competitive events.

In the 800 metres, Robert Lindsay struck Gold in his age group in yet another excellent run, which was all the more impressive after a recent injury at a very unfortunate time. Robert clocked 2.13 for the half mile. Team-mate Gordon Reid cemented his recent good form by taking a great bronze medal in the M45 category for the 1500 metres (4.30.54) as the day proved to be hugely successful for the Harriers.

The previous evening saw the Calderglen Harriers 10k Trail Race take place. Always a popular event, there were 2 Kilmarnock athletes in the field. With Race Winner Robert Gilroy taking the honours it was Craig Ferguson in an excellent 6th place overall who was first home for the Ayrshire Club in 38.44. Connell Drummond too had a good run in 41.12.

A couple of days prior to this, Connell took part in the Scottish Veteran Harriers 5K Road Race at Clydebank. Clocking 18.12, this placed him 31st overall as he picks his training up prior to a Marathon assault in the Autumn.

Finally, Blackwaterfoot was the venue for the Arran Half Marathon on Sunday and with the event being the latest instalment in the Club Summer Championships there was a large contingent of Harriers in the field.

On yet another good day for the Club, the Harriers took the overall team prize with Scott Martin, Gordon Reid (who had raced the previous day ) and Mark Alexander being the counters having all finished in the Top 10, while a number of other athletes too ran close to their personal bests on what was a great sign on a hilly course.

Times were – 3rd Scott Martin 1.18.18, 7th Gordon Reid 1.22.33, 9th Mark Alexander 1.25.24, 24th Matt Dodds 1.38.00, 54th Stuart Nibloe 1.50.00, 55th Amanda Bryden 1.50.05, 69th Mark Lyden 1.56.54, 73rd Lynne McCaffrey 1.57.17, 79th Jacqui Sandler 2.01.59.

Well done to everyone on a busy spell for athletes.
