Masters Cross Country Champs

On Saturday afternoon (2nd Feb), a couple of Kilmarnock Harrier athletes took the long trip to Forres in the Highlands to compete in the Scottish Masters Cross Country Championship. The race was over 8 Kilometres, or in old figures 5 miles of tough competition.

A tough course, mainly of trail with a few killer hills, the cream of the country’s runners over the age of 35 were in the field and both Killie men on show fared very well indeed. Scott Martin came home inside his Top 20 target finishing in a highly commendable position of 18th overall, his highest placing to date, and was very pleased with his performance.

Connell Drummond too, showed a welcome return to form after the previous weekends good run at the Vet’s Relays at Strathclyde Park.

Finishing well inside the top half of the field, the sub 3 hour marathoner can again be pleased with recent improvements as the racing season starts to switch from the grass and back to the road and track for the next few months.

Times were – 18th Scott Martin 29.53, 53rd Connell Drummond 32.23.
