ALLOA HALF MARATHON 2017

ARMY OF KILLIE ATHLETES BRAVE THE WIND AT THE ALLOA HALF MARATHON

On Sunday morning in Clackmannanshire, close to 3,000 runners lined up in windy conditions for the 35th staging of the hugely popular Alloa Half Marathon.

Amongst this number there were 17 athletes from Kilmarnock Harriers, each with individual goals ranging from a boost in prep for upcoming Marathons in London and Stirling, to chasing down a personal best, or even just a run out to test their fitness after a hard bout of Winter training in all conditions.

Although the race can be billed as ideal for chasing a time, conditions as ever can play a huge part and in an exposed course like Alloa this meant that anyone running close to a lifetime best time would be doing extremely well indeed. Nevertheless, at the sharp end of the field race winners Swansea Harrier Kristian Jones and Garscube athlete Katie White cut the tape first in outstanding times of 1.07.19 and 1.16.52 respecively.

Amongst the Kilmarnock Members it was Stuart Nibloe who took the honours in a time of 1.41, while in the women’s stakes first past the post was Viv Lambert in a solid run well inside the 2 hour barrier.
