Kirky 12.5k, and Strathaven Half

The past fortnight has seen a couple of Kilmarnock Harriers compete over longer distances on the road as both step up the gears in preparation for April’s Virgin London Marathon.

First up on Sunday Feb 14th was fast improving Mark Alexander who took part in the sold out Kirkintilloch 12.5k. This is the only race of its kind over the unique distance and it also features 12 tough hills on the route to make it a challenge for everyone.

Nevertheless, Mark had a great run and in a field of almost 300 finishers finished in an excellent 8th position in a time of 48.21 and within 3 minutes of event winner James Stewart of Victoria Park.

Also finishing 8th on Sunday Feb 21st was Connell Drummond who took part in the second staging of the Strathaven Half Marathon.

Finishing in a time of 1.19.32 this placed him 3rd Vet and in a race won by Martin Williams, this was a very good result as well.
