Ruby’s 5K Race Results

Fine autumn weather saw  a great turnout for the 25th running of Ruby’s Race, held in memory of Ruby Young, one of our most esteemed and popular members.

The party got underway with the one mile fun run with a record 71 entries, ranging from 2 (3 elite athletes in this age group!), to 62, with many of the competitors in fancy dress. Thanks for joining in the fun, you all earned your medal.

For the 5k race we had an excellent entry of 114 runners. The best of these, on the day, was Alex Allardyce of Irvine AC who  finished in a time of 17:05. Closely behind Alex, and making it an exciting finish, came our own Keith Haining in 17:07, with Ross Bark unattached in 3rd. First male vet was Robert Lindsay putting in a dogged performance and just holding off the ‘in form’ Connell Drummond.

In the women’s race, Shona Robertson of Shettleston Harriers led the field home in an impressive 19:18. It was Shona’s first try at this event…. and she says she will be back next year with more of her club! Well, she better be – she’s  got the trophy!! Well done Shona. Finishing strongly in second place, we had Laura Wallace of Ayr Seaforth in 19:38, closely followed by team mate Gael Riddle in third. First female vet was Killie’s Liz McDerment, no doubt spurred on trying to catch her man, Les, on the Lead Bike.
