National Age Group Championships

A number of athletes from the club travelled to Grangemouth today to compete in the National Age Group Championships. The weather was favourable i.e. dry.

In the Under 17 mens 100m Kilmarnock coached Ayr Seaforth athlete Fraser Angus was unlucky not to reach the finals despite having run several 10ths faster than some athletes who did. However along with Kilmarnock’s Cameron Wilson he reached the final of the 200m. Fraser claimed the silver medal in a massive pb of 22.83sec and Cameron narrowly missing out on the bronze coming in 4th.

The clubs Evie Bartl competed in the Under 17 women’s pole vault where 2nd, 3rd and 4th placed athletes all vaulted 2.70m, Evie only missing out on a medal on count back. Evie also competed in the Javelin throwing 31.86m against a very strong field of throwers.

Another Kilmarnock coached Under 17 Ayr Seaforth athlete competing today was Andrew Peck. Andrew threw 49.15m to claim the silver medal. Andrew came 5th in the Shot Putt with a throw of 12.18m however in the Discus Andrew claimed Gold with a throw of 44.18m.

Also competing today was a young Kilmarnock Harrier Sara Barbour in the Under 13 Girls Javelin with a best throw of 19.15m to finish 9th and gaining great experience of competing in a major Championship event.

Day two tomorrow for the Under 15 and Under 20 athletes, so good luck to them and a huge well done to the athletes who competed today.
