Scottish Cross Country 4K Championships

IAIN Connell won gold as the first veteran home in the Scottish 4k Cross Country Championships on Saturday.

The Galston man will add this to the 1500 metres title he won at the Scottish Masters Championship earlier in the year.He was one of six Kilmarnock Harriers who lined up with the cream of the country at Bellahouston.

Just behind Iain and on the comeback trail from injury was Cameron Wilson who showed his liking for tough conditions by scything through the mud.

Team mate James Wales wasn’t too far behind while completing the Killie quintet was Scott Martin and Kenny Wales. The team combined to earn Kilmarnock a healthy top 10 position. In the ladies race, Paula Wilson, hoping for national selection for the upcoming Masters Home International at the same venue, ran her usual strong race and took a few notable scalps before the finishing line to do her chances no harm indeed.
