Kirkmichael Gala 10Km Race and Fun Run

After many years away, the Kirkmichael Fun Run makes a return to the running Calendar. The new course (similar to the old course for those who did it and have good memories) is now an accurate 10Km route. Starting at Kirkmichael Playing field the route heads North towards Maybole for just over the first 3km before turning right towards the old Dalrymple to Kirkmichael road. The first third of the race is a gradual incline once past the incline of Maybole road but nothing too significant.

The next part of the race is through rural roads with an incline on the 5th and 6th Kilometer. However this is easily runnable and is worthwhile for the final Third of the race. At the next main junction around the 7km marker you head back to Kirkmichael. This 1.5K is a fast downhill where you can let yourself go. With one last hill, you head downhill into Kirkmichael where you go over the small bridge to the last turning point at the new School. Then it’s downhill to the finish at the Playing field.

This route is accurately measured with a wheel and SAF registered. Entry is £5 (SAF Members) and £7 to Others and Registration is from Noon.

Before the 10K, they will be a 1 mile Fun run for 14 year olds and younger around the perimeter of this Triangular village so bring the family along.

Remember, this isn’t a just a race day, it is the revival of the Kirkmichael Gala Day. They will be plenty of stalls selling crafts, home baking, kiddies sweets, toys, balloons and more. For kids they will be huge inflatables, water walkers and bronco bull. As well as all of this we have Maybole Pipe band providing entertainment and leading the parade and a Wooly Jumpers Derby (Sheep Racing).

This is a small, friendly Village that welcome you down to visit and enjoy what should be a great race and a great day for the family. This is Also Easy to get to. Just take left turn on A77 after Minishant and it takes you straight into the village if travelling South or Right Turn at Kirmichael Road near the end of Maybole and turn Right at T junction at the end of road (Barr’s House) if you’re travelling North.
