Jeff Halliday

It is with great sadness that we have to report the passing of Jeff Halliday, a lifelong club member and one of our clubs most dedicated and generous supporters.

Jeff joined the club in the 1960’s as a talented young sprinter and middle distance runner. He then proceeded  to represent the club with great distinction in various track  and field events, in cross country and in road running. In his middle years, Jeff was particularly successful in the veteran harriers indoor circuit.

When Jeff ceased competitive athletics  he continued to maintain contact with the club through his many running friends and as a major sponsor of numerous club events. In particular, he was most generous at sponsoring the KH 10K Road Race series and The Ruby Young Memorial Races. The club recognised his outstanding contribution as an athlete and supporter by awarding him an Honourary Life Membership.

The  accompanying photograph shows Jeff with Anne and Hugh Rankin in happier times – our 125th Anniversary Ball, which Jeff was delighted to support.

His funeral will be held at Kay Park Parish Church at 1.15 on Wednesday 22nd April at 2.45 at Masonhill Crematorium, Ayr. All friends are respectfully invited.
