Success for Kilmarnock Harriers pole vaulters

Pitreavie Yong Athletes Trophy Meeting provided a last chance for our young pole vaulters to finish the outdoor season on a high. The recent National Championships in Aberdeen had already seen young Harriers doing very well, wining national medals, and therefore it was no surprise that Harriers were again at the forefront at this competition.

Kilmarnock Harriers had 5 athletes competing at this prestigious event: Nathan Cummings (U20), Callum Meldrum (U15), Evie Bartl, Emma Pattieson both (U15) and Finlay Walker (U13). Emma had only recently joined our pole vault group and has made steady progress over the months, which was again evident in her 1.80m clearance. Finlay had to move up an age group to U15 and had a another good clearance over 2.10m and failing narrowly at 2.20m.

Evie Bartl cleared again 2.30m in her second attempt and won her age group, narrowly missing 2.40m, which was the opening height for Callum and Nathan. Callum, who won a bronze medal at the national championships, jumped to a height of 2.60m, winning the boys U15 age group. Last not lease it was Nathan’s turn who vaulted over 2.70m to win the U20 competition. Although well below his best of 2.90m Nathan was pleased of having won his first trophy.

pitreavie-13All in all this proved to be a good competition and all athletes had great fun. Anyone interested in learning the pole vault should contact coach Harald at Kilmarnock Harriers. The pole vault group meets on Wednesday and Friday evening at the Ayrshire Athletics Arena.
