Hill Racing Season starts in earnest.

The second Bog and Burn race of the season took place at Kaim Hill in Fairlie, by Largs. Another windy wet night, the race reverted to the traditional route, and lived up to the billing, being very squelchy on the summit plateau.

It was a great night for Kilmarnock Harriers, with three runners in the first 13 places. Davie White(6th in 34-59) is once more the lean, mean running machine of old having lost a few pounds over the winter. He was closely followed by Colin Glencorse (7th in 35-07) and the pair of them had a great battle on the heathery descent. Keith Haining (13th in 36-56) completed a trio only just beaten by Westerlands CCC for the team prize. Davie had the honour of winning the Dave Miller trophy for leading Ayrshire runner (previously won by both Colin and Keith). Roddy Pugh (31st in 42-16) completed a quartet of Killie runners. The race was won by James Waldie, Carnethy in 30-58. The usual large and varied prize list included a buff for all runners.

On the same evening ,some 250miles away, Mark Alexander continued his good form from the Highland Fling  when he competed in Sheffield in the Tiger’s Todger (is it a race or an unpleasant sounding disease in large cats?). Mark finished 33rd out of 200 runners. The leading runner at the summit failed to finish when he was attacked by a cow and had to be hospitalised.
