Track & Field Summer Season 2014

Dear Athlete,

the  track & field  outdoor season is about to start and now might be a good time to plan ahead and put important dates into your diary. The season start starts with two meeting within a week, the Ayrshire Harriers Meeting 13th April 2014, which takes place at our own track and the following Sunday 27th April 2014 the open meting in Dumfries. Athletes, who want to know more about any upcoming meetings should speak to their coach, who will provide further advise.  The club might be considering to organize a bus to the Dumfries meeting; further details will be announced in due course.

The below pdf file lists the main summer meetings of 2014. Meetings highlighted in green are major championships, yellow meetings are open graded meetings and are often used for qualification with regard to team selection for the Ayrshire Harriers, who compete in the Youth Development League (former Scottish Young Athletes League).

Purple meetings represent the Scottish Schools Athletics Association (SSAA). This year’s Scottish Schools Championships will be held at two different venues, the qualifying rounds/heats are at Grangemouth and the finals at the Commonwealth arena at Hamden Park.

Any athlete, who wants to compete in the Scottish Schools, should speak to their PE teacher, as entries can only be made through the school, which has to be affiliated to the organisation (SSAA http://www.ssaa.co.uk/). Results from the Scottish Schools are also used as one possible qualifying criteria for the Celtic Games to be held on 9th August 2014 at Ireland and being selected to compete at this event means that the athletes will be representing Scotland against the other home nations like England, Wales and Ireland.

Athletes considering to compete in the West District 23/24 May 2014 (Kilmarnock)  and the National Age Group  championships on 23/24th August (Aberdeen) have to enter themselves. Entries can be made via the Scottish Athletics web site (online/via phone or postal). It is important to be aware of the deadline for the regional/national competitions, as no late entries will be accepted.
