Successful Debut at Scottish Athletics Indoor League

Kilmarnock Harriers had entered 5 teams: 1 boys U15 , 2 girls U15 and 2 U13  girls for the Scottish Athletics Indoor League, the first time in its club history. The results really show that our junior section can compete with the best clubs in Scotland. Overall it were the field events where Kilmarnock Harriers athletes excelled.

Erin Pastilovic 200m race

There have been excellent performances from our youngsters with many new PBs and more importantly, this has been a first taste for many competing at a higher level. Although the U13 girls A  team are currently only in 11 place, we had good results in the 60m hurdles with Natalie Sharp coming third overall in 11.80 (PB) and Jennifer Carey coming 9th in 12.31. Jennifer was 4th in the high jump and Leonie McCutcheon 8th both clearing 1.15m. Natalie Sharp managed also a 3rd place in the shot put with a new PB of 6.14m and Phoebe McCutcheon threw the shot 3.90m. Erin Pastilovic was in action in the long jump and leapt 3.27m for 10th place and Molly Murray achieved 2.57m. Erin Pastilovic also run the 60m in 9.63 and 200m in Pastilovic 33.1 (13th). Phoebe and Leonie McCutcheon competed both in the 800m running respectively 3:03 and 3:05.

Our U15 boys team gained valuable experience and finished after the first match in 12 position, as they lost points due to not entering a hurdler.  Aidan Hesset had good runs in both the 400 and 800m, clocking 70.1 (9th) and 2:38 (8th).  Ewan McDowel run the 60m sprint in 9.63 and David Stark achieved a 9th place in the 200m in 29.2. David also jumped 1.25m in the high jump (9th),  and Jamie Neilson jumped 3.97m in the long jump. Rob Drummond completed the line up and threw 5.45m in the shot put for 10th place.

Iona Charles 200m race

The U15 girls had an excellent start to their campaign with the A team presently in 2nd position and there is optimism that they could qualify for the final if they are among the top five teams after the third match. Lauren Greig competed in both sprint events, running a new PB for 60m in 8.27 (2nd) and coming 4th in the 200m in 28.7. New comer Erica McKie run the 60m in 9.50 and Iona Charles clocked 30.4 over the 200m (10th). Evie Bartl competed in the 60m hurdles and run 10.56 for 5th. Katie Greensmith run a good 300m in 50.9 (11th) and Laura Wilkie finished closely behind in 52. 9 (13th). Cara Bailie was our endurance athlete running 2.50 for the 800m (11th). Excellent results and a number of new PBs were achieved in the field events.

Zaya McMillan Grant shot new PB 8.86m

Evie Bartl and Zaya McMillan Grant won both their shot put events , Evie 9.60m (PB) and Zaya 8.86m (PB). Sophie Rowan jumped a new PB of 1.45m (2nd) and Laura Wilkie achieved 1.40m (PB) for 4th place. Evie competed also in the long jump leaping 4.30m for 5th and Iona Charles jumped 3.78m for 12 place.  

Overall these have been promising results and our youngsters can be optimistically looking forward to the second match, which is held on 5th January 2014 at the Emirates Stadium.
