Hugh Rankin Tribute Run and Seniors Christmas Handicap

‘Wee Hughie’, one of the clubs oldest and most distinguished members, is 90 on 18th  December. The club would like to mark this occasion by having a wee run in his honour, after which we will be making a presentation to him.

Having been a World and European record holder, Hugh is one of Kilmarnock Harriers most successful athletes. He has also been one of the clubs greatest servants, supporting us in numerous ways over many years. We do hope as many as possible of you will be able to join us to pay tribute to this fine man.

Due to the disruption caused by the Pantomime and the difficulties in fitting in the various Christmas Handicaps, for this year only, the run will also incorporate the Seniors (U17 and above) Christmas Handicap. To participate in the Secret Santa Draw, can Seniors and U20 bring a wrapped secret Santa gift to the approximate value of £5.

The run will start at 9.45 on Sunday 15th December and will take place over the Parkrun course (a measured 5K) in Dean Castle Country Park. It will be a sealed handicap, i.e. a mass start with handicaps adjusted after the finish. Please register between 9.15 and 9.30. After the run we will head for the Café for coffee and cakes on the club. Non runners are welcome to participate as volunteers or spectators. Although the handicap is for Seniors, juniors are also welcome

To help the café, we need an idea of numbers. Can folk wishing to attend please let me know here – Ian Gebbie or on Facebook. If you are running, please provide a recent 5K time. If not let me know if you would be able to marshal.
